This past Sunday, while we were celebrating the announcement of a potential new facility in Shelby Park, we were notified of a tragic shooting that took place later that night. Jimmy Brown, a member of our sister church Immanuel Baptist, was shot late Sunday evening. Jimmy was rushed to the hospital where he has undergone several major surgeries. He is badly injured and is currently in a coma.
We know from scripture that often the gifts of God come in strange pairs. “It has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake” (Philippians 1:29). Pastor Nathan Ivey reminds us that “…ministry and mission are not always easy, comfortable or safe. We faithfully affirm, however, that God remains good, gracious, and in control – promising that He uses all things, the good and the bad, to display his glory and advance his kingdom purposes on earth.”
Let’s be a people of prayer and action in this situation…NOW is the time to step forward in love with our sister church, Immanuel, against the evils of this age and for the peace of our city.
